August 28, 2025

Here's a step-by-step guide on how to delete Jira ticket:

  1. Open the Jira project with the ticket you want to delete.
  2. You can delete a ticket right from the board, backlog, all work and list view. Or simply open a ticket from any view.
  3. If you delete a ticket from the list view, all work view or the backlog, you can tick irrelevant  work items and bulk delete them with the Delete button.
  4. In the board view, choose the work item and click the three-dot button (•••) on the work item cover, then choose to delete it.
  5. If you open a work item, you will find the three-dot menu (•••) in the right top corner. Click on it find the Delete option.
  6. Confirm the deletion in a pop-up window. Type the word "delete" into the provided text field.

Important detail:

  • Permissions: you must have the "Delete Issues" or "Move Issues" permission to delete tickets. If you don't see the option, contact your administrator.
  • Permanence: deleting a ticket is a permanent action that removes the issue and all its associated data completely. This data cannot be recovered.
  • Alternative actions: if you are unsure about deleting, consider resolving or closing the ticket instead, which preserves historical data.
