How to delete a board in Jira?

August 28, 2025

It's important to note that the ability to have multiple boards can depend on the type of Jira project. In company-managed projects, you can create multiple boards. However, in team-managed projects, you are inherently limited to a single board therefore you can not delete it; the board is fundamentally tied to the project itself. The only way to get rid of the board in a team-managed project is to delete the entire project.

Here is how to delete a board in the company-managed project in Jira:

  1. To delete a board in Jira, go to the Search field. Choose “Go to all boards” at the bottom.
  2. You will see a list of all your Jira boards.
  3. Navigate to the one you want to delete and click the three-dots menu (•••) next to the right.
  4. Click in “Delete” and confirm your action.

Important detail:

  • Permissions: you must have the necessary permissions to delete a board. If you cannot find the delete option, you may not have permission, and you should contact your Jira administrator.
  • Associated filters: a board is connected to a filter, and sometimes the filter might be used by other boards. Be aware that deleting a board might affect other users or boards if its underlying filter is shared and used elsewhere.
  • Alternative: archive: if you prefer to keep the board for later but no longer need it active, you may find an option to archive it instead of deleting it completely.
